Alan Shearer has expressed his delight at the influence of Newcastle United in England’s starting XI in their 5-0 win over the Republic of Ireland on Sunday night.
There were three members of Eddie Howe’s side named in the starting lineup for that victory on 17 November, in the form of Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall.
It marked the first time since 1997 that the Magpies had three representatives in an England starting lineup, which Shearer was unsurprisingly pleased with.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast about the number of players from his former club representing the Three Lions in that game, the Premier League’s record goalscorer said: “I thought they did really well, Lewis Hall came on the Greece game and had a start tonight, as did Livramento and Gordon, so a good night for Newcastle.”
England can look to Newcastle for talent for many years to come

With these three players, it would be no surprise is there was plenty of representation from St James’ Park in the squad for a long time yet.
Left-back has been something of a problem position for England in recent years, so the emergence of Hall to fill that role is a welcome relief.
Equally, Livramento did well on the other side of defence, proving himself to be a reliable option for England in that position in the future.
Gordon meanwhile, scored his first international goal in the win on Sunday with a brilliant finish at the back post.
The Newcastle winger is now starting to show what he can do for England, having not always been used as much as some might have wanted previously under Gareth Southgate.
That was also picked up by Micah Richards on the same podcast, who when asked which of the less experienced players he was impressed by in the international break.
He said: “Gordon, we were talking about Gordon not playing in the Euros, getting limited minutes, I think for the new manager coming in now it’s good to see he’s got all these players playing pretty well, and they’ve all got something different.”
Given all of the trio are aged 23 and under, they all also have plenty of time to be called upon by the Three Lions in the future as well.
With that in mind, England games should give Newcastle United fans plenty to watch out for going forward.
