Man City attacking midfielder James McAtee is attracting interest from West Ham and Fulham ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report from The Guardian.
The 22-year-old has just over a year-and-a-half remaining on his current contract at The Etihad, and would apparently cost somewhere in the region of £20million and above.
Even so, Man City have reportedly not ruled out offering him a new contract, although it is noted the Premier League champions are willing to sell home talent to meet PSR regulations.
If they decide to move McAtee on, then West Ham and Fulham could both be ready to pounce as they look to add to their creativity in midfield.
At the London Stadium interest in the City ace comes as Lucas Paqueta continues to struggle, with the Brazilian himself linked to a move in the opposite direction over the past year (Guardian).
West Ham signing McAtee would raise questions over form Man City target
Football Insider Opinion
There is an argument that selling McAtee may be a sensible move for Pep Guardiola’s side to make in January, as they look to meet financial regulations.
Despite the injury crisis they have had to deal with this season, the 22-year-old has made just one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Man City this season.
As a result, his prospects at the Etihad do not exactly look promising, meaning a move may be best for all concerned, given it could open the door for new signings for the defending top-flight champions.
He impressed out on loan at Sheffield United in the last two seasons, so there should be a confidence he can perform in the top-flight.
Paqueta has struggled for West Ham in an attacking midfield role this season, and his place could therefore be under threat if McAtee makes the move to The London Stadium.
The 22-year-old is clearly adept in that role, and may feel he will have a point to prove if he is sold, while the Hammers would want a return on their investment.
He would therefore be in a strong position to take over from the Brazilian in the starting XI for the Hammers if things do not change for him soon.
If that was to happen, it would be an ironic turn of events, given Man City were keen to sign Paqueta before he was charged by the FA with a breach of betting regulations (Sky Sports) – he denies the charge.
Even so, with Fulham also being linked and having made a strong start to the campaign, there could be some strong competition for the Irons if they do make a move for McAtee.
In other news, Man City’s stance over selling Ederson and signing a replacement has become clearer.
