Southampton have agreed a permanent deal to sign Ben Brereton Diaz from Villarreal, sources have told Football Insider.
Football Insider revealed that the forward was heading to England on Monday for his medical, which has now been completed.
The Chilean will sign a four-year deal with the Premier League outfit, and an announcement is expected on Tuesday afternoon.
The fee is reportedly set to be £7million, despite the clubs originally discussing a loan option.
Southampton have been in the market for a striker following the departure of Che Adams earlier this summer.
The Scotland international was a regular for the Saints, having played 191 times during his spell with the club.
On the other hand, Diaz is looking for a fresh start after a difficult spell in La Liga with Villarreal.
The 25-year-old failed to provide any goal contributions during his 20 appearances with the club.
Southampton have brought in a proven Premier League player in Ben Brereton Diaz
Even though Diaz is joining from Villarreal, he does bring some Premier League experience with him to St Mary’s Stadium after spending the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United.
The forward will be hoping for a better outcome after the Blades were relegated, despite him scoring six times in 14 appearances.
Diaz also provides a level of versatility, as he’s capable of playing on the left wing as well as upfront.
The signing of Diaz has come at a good time for Southampton as Hull City have agreed a £3million fee for West Brom’s Brandon Thomas-Asante.
