Arsenal want to sign 'world-class' winger if Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson are sold - journalist

Arsenal have made both Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson available for sale this summer.

The Gunners take on Wolves in their Premier League opener on Saturday, and all eyes right now are on that game at the Emirates.

However, the transfer window is still open, and there could be movement – both incomings and outgoings – in the next two weeks.

Arsenal fans are hoping for a new attacker, but that will likely be possible only if Nketiah and Nelson are moved on in the coming days.

Nico Williams is Arsenal’s top target if Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson leave

Nico Williams has been a wanted man since before the transfer window even opened.

The Spaniard had an excellent 2023/24 season at Athletic Bilbao, and he carried that form into Euro 2024, where he was one of La Roja’s best players.

A number of clubs have been chasing the ‘world-class‘ winger, but so far, nobody has been able to lure him away from Bilbao.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Williams, and although things have been quiet on that front, the Gunners’ interest has not gone away.

That’s according to Kaya Kaynak, who was asked by a fan in a Q&A on Football London which attacker Arsenal could sign if both Nelson and Nketiah end up leaving the club.

The journalist revealed that Williams is Arsenal’s ‘top choice’, but that move will be extremely difficult to pull off because of three reasons.

He said: “I think the top choice is Nico Williams. Whether they can actually get that deal done is another question altogether though.

“He has interest from Barca, huge wage demands and would require all of his release clause to be paid upfront.”

The latest on Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson’s futures

It is no secret at this point that both Nketiah and Nelson can leave Arsenal for the right price.

The two Hale End graduates are surplus to requirements at the Emirates, but they are more than good enough to become stars at another Premier League club.

After Bournemouth decided to go with Evanilson instead of Nketiah, Sky Sports revealed that Nottingham Forest are keen to sign the Arsenal number 14. Everton are interested in Nketiah too.

As for Nelson, West Ham United and Leicester City both made approaches to sign him, but Arsenal’s asking price of over £15 million has made it difficult for the two clubs (GiveMeSport).

Neither Nketiah nor Nelson are close to leaving Arsenal at the moment, but that could change in the coming days.
