Jurgen Klopp has shared if he’s genuinely open to becoming England manager after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.
The German coach has emerged as an outside choice to replace Gareth Southgate for the Three Lions, with Harry Redknapp keen to see Klopp take the England job heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With Klopp already approached for the USA manager role, international management seems to be where the former Liverpool coach could be heading having spent the last nine years on the touchline with the Reds.
And Klopp has now clarified if he’s actually interested in taking on the England job.
Klopp shuts down suggestion he wants England job after Liverpool exit
Speaking to Sport, Klopp once again clarified his desire to take a break from management after nearly a decade at Liverpool, all-but ending speculation that the 57-year-old coach wants to take on the England job to replace Southgate.
Indeed, the search for the new Three Lions coach will take some time heading into the UEFA Nations League next season, yet one man who won’t be up for the job is Klopp, who seemingly wants to take it easy for the next year or so.
Klopp said when asked if he would take the England job if offered this summer: “It would be the biggest loss of face in the history of football if someone said, ‘I’ll make an exception for you.’ There’s nothing job-wise. No club, no country.
“A few people must not have heard that part. I’ll do some work. I’m too young to just play padel with my grandchildren. Will I coach? I would actually rule that out at the moment. Let’s see how it will look in a few months. At the moment nothing is happening.”
Klopp is right to want a break from management after Liverpool
Klopp has been one of the best managers in Europe for the last 15 years, with the German transforming Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool into two of the best teams in the world and winning plenty of silverware along the way.
And after so long at the top of the game, Klopp has earned this break from management, with the German seemingly loving the time away from the game having been spotted at numerous events across the globe.
Indeed, the England job would have suited the former Liverpool man, but with Klopp set on resting up, there’s good reason why the German manager is keen to shut down rumours now before they begin to spiral out of control.
