Arsenal are in the market for a new midfielder this summer as they look to strengthen their squad for a potential title charge.
Mikel Merino is a player that Arsenal have been strongly linked with for a while now.
The Spaniard is said to have agreed personal terms with the Gunners, but a deal isn’t done yet.
However, there is seemingly a growing feeling within football that Merino will be headed to north London.
Indeed, according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona both believe that Merino is prioritising a move to Arsenal.
Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are still keen on signing Merino, but they believe the player is prioritising a move to Arsenal.

Atletico Madrid think Mikel Merino wants to join Arsenal
Romano shared what he knows about the ‘incredible’ player.
“Atletico had in their list Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad, Atletico and Barca, both clubs are still thinking of Mikel Merino, but both clubs feel that Mikel Merino is giving total priority to Arsenal,” Romano said.
Mikel Merino to Arsenal feels inevitable
Mikel Merino to Arsenal may just be a matter of time at this point.
Merino has agreed personal terms, and if both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona believe the player is keen on the move, it should happen.
Of course, there can be late twists and turns in any transfer saga, but, so long as there are no unforeseen changes to this situation, it does sound as though Merino should be an Arsenal player before the end of the summer.
Arsenal are looking to build a team capable of winning the Premier League this season, and adding a European champion to their squad certainly won’t do their title chances any harm.
Atletico Madrid may have to look elsewhere, and that may be why the Spanish club are now looking to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.
