Newcastle United look set to miss out on the signing of Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi just days before the close of the transfer window.
The Tyneside club are scouring the market for late additions after an underwhelming summer window.
Despite their immense wealth and ambitious owners, Newcastle United have only brought in five new signings this summer – and it hasn’t given fans much to shout about.
Deals for Lewis Hall, Odysseas Vlachodimos, William Osula, John Ruddy and Lloyd Kelly have not inspired much hope for Newcastle’s chances of pushing for a top-four finish.
But Newcastle have been pushing hard to sign Marc Guehi after the Crystal Palace centre-back shined for England at Euro 2024.
Newcastle have had four bids rejected for Guehi, including a club-record offer worth up to £65million.

Marc Guehi to Newcastle United looks off
Despite Newcastle’s multiple bids, they are yet to match Palace’s £70million valuation of Marc Guehi.
The London club have stubbornly stuck to their asking price and it seems Newcastle are now ready to look elsewhere.
According to The Telegraph’s John Percy, the deal now looks “highly unlikely” to take place.
“Guehi to Newcastle sounds highly unlikely at this stage with Crystal Palace sticking to their valuation of around £70m,” posted Percy.
“Obviously a day left in the window but the deal looks off.”
Newcastle United have Marc Guehi alternatives
Newcastle walking away from the Guehi deal is not the end of the world for the Magpies – they have alternative options lined up.
Newcastle have opened talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba as well as expressing an interest in Chelsea’s Axel Disasi.
However, Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has said that if the Guehi deal falls through then there is a chance Newcastle will not sign another defender this summer.
Missing out on Guehi would be a big blow, but ending the transfer window without a new centre-back signing at all would be disastrous.
