‘I’m told’: Sky Journalist shares what he’s heard about Michael Edwards at Liverpool just before deadline day

It’s taken months, but Liverpool are finally starting to spring into life in the transfer window.

The Reds looked to be set for a big summer of change in this window after bringing in a new manager and a new Sporting Director, but, as of yet, no signings have officially been announced.

Federico Chiesa is close to signing for Liverpool, while a deal to bring Giorgi Mamardashvili to Anfield is thought to be done.

Liverpool still have 36 hours to get any other business done, and by the sounds of things, they’re calling in the big guns.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Vinny O’Connor has provided an update from Liverpool’s training ground, and he says that FSG’s CEO of Football, Michael Edwards, has actually been at the AXA Training Centre ahead of deadline day.

Michael Edwards is at Liverpool’s training ground

O’Connor shared what he was told about Edwards.

“He (Chiesa) flew into Liverpool John Lennon airport yesterday, he did a bit of the medical off-site, and then he was here until about one in the morning. Michael Edwards was here, I’m told, as was Richard Hughes, the Liverpool Sporting Director,” O’Connor said.

Michael Edwards presence could signal further signings

Michael Edwards is very rarely seen at Liverpool.

He’s someone you hear a lot about, but he’s not exactly a regular presence at Anfield or at the AXA Training Centre.

However, the fact that the FSG chief is in and around the training ground at the moment could suggest there’s more Liverpool activity to follow.

Liverpool do still need a new holding midfield player after missing out on Martin Zubimendi, and while the Reds haven’t been linked with a concrete target in that position as of yet, the fact that Edwards is seemingly active just before deadline day could suggest something could yet spring up.

Liverpool could be in for an exciting end to this transfer window.
