Rangers are set to miss out on the transfer of Yusuf Kabadayi after the Bayern Munich winger chose to sign for Augsburg, according to Tobi Altschaffl.

The German journalist posted on X that Kabadayi will be joining Augsburg on a contract until 2028, with the Bundesliga side paying an initial £762,000 plus add-ons for the 20-year-old.

Kabadayi spent last season out on loan in Germany’s second tier with Schalke and had been high on Philippe Clement’s list of transfer targets, travelling to Glasgow for talks three weeks ago [The 4th Official, 9 June].

Rangers hit by first transfer setback in depleted position

While some onlookers doubted whether Kabadayi could truly be a hit at Ibrox, it’s clear that the 20-year-old was one Clement had been hoping for this summer [SchalkeZone, 8 June].

As things stand, the Belgian has six wide attacking players at his disposal in the first team, but a number of those have question marks over their futures with the club [Fanatik, 10 June].

Sam Lammers and Ianis Hagi aren’t expected to be sticking around after respective loans out last season, while Tom Lawrence has made clear his intention to leave in the last few weeks [Fanatik, 12 June].

Oscar Cortes has returned on a season-long loan deal from Lens, but Fabio Silva and Abdallah Sima both headed back to their parent clubs, leaving Clement with a dearth of quality out wide [Daily Record, 4 June].

Kabadayi’s signing could have alleviated this lack of options, and he would have been a player befitting Clement’s transfer policy of signing young up-and-coming players in the transfer window.

The arrival of another in Hamza Igamane is imminent, but this new setback means that the Gers cannot afford to slow down in their pursuit of game-changing widemen [Daily Record, 3 July].

In other Rangers news, the club are battling with Celtic to sign a Scottish starlet currently training with Arsenal.
