Barcelona unable to register nine players as things stand

Barcelona are mired in uncertainty regarding their finances this summer, although almost all reporting agrees that the Blaugrana need some serious income in order to register players for next season. As it stands, over a third of their squad would be ineligible, albeit with plenty of time to go.

As per The Athletic, Barcelona must €130m before July in order to register players without restrictions next summer. Of their current squad, Inigo Martinez and Vitor Roque have not been registered for next season. Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso are out of contract, and nay new deals would have to be re-registered, although Alonso is expected to depart, and Roberto could well do so too.

Meanwhile youngsters Alejandro Balde, Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi and Hector Fort are yet to see their contracts registered with La Liga – they can still play on youth contracts – and Gavi’s contract is still subject to a legal battle.

Selling or loaning out their returning players from spells away from the club could go some way to easing their issues. Loan players are immediately registered when they head back to a club, so the Blaugrana will be taking on the significant wages of Ansu Fati, Eric Garcia, Clement Lenglet and Sergino Dest for next season, although all have been heavily linked with exits.

Only Garcia is thought to stand a real chance of staying at the club, but Girona are interested in making their deal permanent. Barcelona will be most keen to get Martinez and Roque registered, as they are the players most at risk of having to leave as a result. Time continues to tick on for Barcelona and their accountancy department.
