Liverpool face huge problem as Man City spread 'poison' - Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal will face a “problem” if Man City win their fight against the Premier League.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested state-owned clubs like City and Newcastle are attempting to strip the English top flight of “jeopardy and sporting integrity”.

City have taken legal action against the Premier League to abolish their associated party transaction rules.

If successful, they will be free to dictate bigger prices for future commercial and sponsorship deals and effectively bypass top-flight spending rules.

Football Insider revealed on Thursday (6 June) that Newcastle are prepared to submit documents in support of Man City ahead of their arbitration hearing next week.

Liverpool at huge risk after new Man City legal action, says Wyness

Wyness claimed City have “poisoned” the Premier League with clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool at risk of being left behind.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “This argument is about trying to protect PSR, with City trying to blow it up.

“If they were to be successful, it would polarise things into the haves and the have-nots.

“Certainly Saudi Arabia have got extremely deep pockets, the United Arab Emirates – it would give a problem to clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal in particular.

“It’s the wrong way to be going. We should be trying to maintain as much jeopardy and sporting integrity as possible.

“It’s a simple thing to ask for, but it’s being poisoned by the unbridled greed we’re seeing from City.

“The Premier League has got to show that it can’t be bought.

“It’s a real big issue, and it’ll probably be up to the governmental level at some stage.

“This league is a great asset and it’s now potentially up for sale. If that’s the case, we may as well give up with football.”
