Journalist shares what Clement wants next at Rangers as transfer 'Gamble' verdict made

Journalist Scott McDermott believes that Rangers need to sign more tried-and-trusted players this summer after making mainly inexperienced additions so far in this window.

The Gers have already signed five new players and have seen the return of two loan stars from last campaign.

In a column for the Daily Record (6 July, pg 61) McDermott has suggested that the signings that Rangers have brought in so far represent a risk and experienced players are needed.

He said: “Just about every player they’ve brought in so far is a gamble. Oscar Cortes impressed before his injury and looks a good acquisition. But the rest are young and untried.

“Philippe Clement is right in his assessment he needs ready-made quality for his team.”

The Light Blues have signed Mohamed Diomande on a permanent deal, while also bringing Cortes back to Ibrox.

Add to this five new additions, Clement’s squad ahead of next season is slowly beginning to shape up for a renewed attempt at deposing Celtic.

After missing out on the Scottish Premiership title and then losing in the last minute in the Scottish Cup final, the Gers are desperate to turn the tide in Glasgow.

There has already been a large outlay of players from Ibrox, which is only set to continue, with the likes of John Lundstram and Borna Barisic departing at the end of their contracts.

Now senior stars James Tavernier and Todd Cantwell have been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia [Scottish Sun], which could leave Rangers more room for manoeuvre in the transfer market.

The additions on free transfers of Connor Barron and Liam Kelly are positive while Hamza Igamane has joined on a permanent deal.

Clement will be eager to add to his Gers squad further this summer, especially if he is to lose some of his key players.

In other Rangers news, a British defender has impressed scouts as Gers look to beat Celtic to a new transfer this summer.
