Fara Williams has admitted losing Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be “gutting” for Everton fans but has questioned what the new impending owners will want.
The Englishman’s current deal at the Toffees is set to expire at the end of the season, but Goodison News understand talks are ongoing over a new contract.
With uncertainty surrounding the situation, Williams presented a few scenarios including what The Friedkin Group will want at Goodison Park [BBC Sport, 18 October].
“The question is, with the new owners coming in: is there a contract on the table?” she wrote.
“If there is not a contract on the table, is that the direction the owners want to go in or is there a contract there that Calvert-Lewin does not want to sign? There are two sides to these situations.
“If there is an offer on the table and he is not signing it, for a club that have done so much for him and likewise he has done for them at times as their talisman, that would be gutting for Everton fans.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin contract call soon at Everton
Everton have struggled with finding the back of the net over the last few years with Calvert-Lewin leading the line.
However, the England international has been hampered by injuries and can be forgiven for not consistently scoring goals for the Toffees.
Despite the striker’s fitness issues, the people responsible for recruitment at the club have time and again ignored addressing bolstering the position, with failed moves such as Beto.
While Everton have spent a considerable amount of money on forwards in the last few years, it has been misguided at best, with examples like Beto failing to make a mark.
Therefore, the Goodison Park side must add reinforcements up front even if Calvert-Lewin puts pen to paper on a new contract.
While the 27-year-old has been a loyal servant for the Toffees after signing from Sheffield United all those years back, it remains to be seen whether he will be a part of the team as the 2025/26 campaign rolls out.
