Derek Ferguson believes James Tavernier will stay at Rangers after an improved performance against Dynamo Kyiv.
The Gers secured a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their opening Champions League qualifier against the Ukrainian outfit.
Despite securing a draw, the former Light Blues midfielder has praised the 32-year-old for his defensive showing on the night after a shaky performance against Hearts.
Speaking on BBC Scotland Extra on 6 August (08:35pm), Ferguson said: “You look at Tavernier tonight, his performance, he looks like his old self.
He looked a bit out of sorts on Saturday against Hearts but sometimes there’s other things going on. There was a lot of speculation about him leaving the club and maybe that’s not going to happen anymore.
“Maybe things have settled down a little bit. His concentration is certainly better, he’s defended pretty well.”
Rangers suffer Champions League setback v Dynamo Kyiv
The Gers started positively, allowing the home side to have their fair share of possession before springing up on the counterattack.
This worked early on as Ross McCausland took aim and smashed an effort off the post after a top-class forward run.
This positivity was sucked out of the Light Blues as Yarmelenko was able to tap home from close range on a counter of their own.
Ridvan Yilmaz was seriously at fault for the opener which ultimately cost Philippe Clement’s side on the night as they return to Glasgow with the score at 1-1.
The second-half performance was positive and they deservedly levelled the game through Cyriel Dessers.
With Rangers levelling so late it will be of even greater frustration that the Light Blues aren’t returning to Ibrox for the second leg.
Tavernier will be hoping he can carry his form into the clash at Hampden in a week’s time.
