John Bennett is reluctant to offer Adrian Bevington the CEO role at Rangers due to his contribution in the Kyle Fox saga, according to the Daily Record.
The Scottish publication’s online report [11 September] shared that whilst former English FA man Bevington would be keen on the role, chairman Bennett has reservations.
American businesswoman Fox withdrew her offer to secure a controlling interest in the club [BBC, 15 March 2023] after former chairman Douglas Park launched legal action, which was later dropped.
Rangers continue CEO search
Alongside all the other factors Bennett must shoulder responsibility for at Rangers, the unenviable task of installing a new CEO is proving a patient process.
James Bisgrove’s move to Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia set the club back and left a gaping void in the boardroom at a less than ideal time of the footballing calendar.
Fox’s attempts to acquire a controlling stake with £60m to Park caused bad blood between her side and the club, and Bevington’s introductory role in those proceedings means Bennett has so far steered clear.
It would be an intriguing move PR-wise for Gers fans if the club were to eventually U-turn on Bevington, who was Club England Managing Director at the FA south of the border for five years between 2010 and 2015.
Bevington, 53, has also held roles at Middlesbrough and Hartlepool United in the past.
