Billionaire-club ready to sign Rangers ace on loan, Gers to pay large sum of wages - report

Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo could end up at Blackburn Rovers this summer, according to the Daily Record.

Writing on their website [22 August] the outlet reported that a potential deal would be a loan move and the Gers would need to pay a significant percentage of the wages.

Blackburn have emerged as the only concrete and most likely destination for Matondo this summer after a proposed move to Leeds United [Football Scotland] failed to materialise.

Rangers need to decide on Rabbi Matondo transfer

Philippe Clement has been backed into a corner with Matondo and now faces the difficult decision of sanctioning the move to Blackburn with no other interested parties at the table.

Venkys London Ltd otherwise known as V H Group, owners of Blackburn are the wealthiest owners in the Championship with a reported net worth of £1.56bn [Yorkshire Evening Post].

The Lancashire outfit are more than capable of covering the full salary of the loan move and are taking advantage of the desperate situation at the Gers.

Rangers had hoped to move the 23-year-old on a permanent deal this summer and reinvest the fee and wages recouped from the sale into the side.

The Gers cannot afford to keep Matondo at the club past the 30 August deadline, he is firmly behind Ross McCausland and Vaclav Cerny in the pecking order and his opportunities will be limited this season with only one start so far in the 2-0 win against St Johnstone in the Scottish League Cup.

Matondo has been underwhelming at Rangers since his move from Schalke in 2022, a return of six goals and four assists last term is nowhere near good enough to help the side challenge Celtic but a move to the Championship could be what he needs to kick start his career.
