Rangers treated Ianis Hagi very poorly in their “bizarre” insistence on leaving him out of the first team for two months of the season before negotiating an agreement on his contract, according to Derek Ferguson.

The former Ibrox favourite has taken a very dim view of the Light Blues wasting weeks of the campaign with the Romania international shut out of the senior squad entirely.

Since the 26-year-old was brought back into the group after giving up a wage-rise clause in his contract [Daily Record, 1 October] he has made a pair of substitute appearances, but Ferguson believes he has more than won over the supporters with his commitment to the cause.

Influential members of the Rangers squad are said to have played a role in forcing a breakthrough in the situation [Daily Record, 1 October] so he appears to have their backing as well.

Ferguson believes it is indicative of decision making at Ibrox which repeatedly falls short of the standards required, contributing to turmoil at virtually every level this term.

The pundit doesn’t expect Hagi to be long for Ibrox despite coming back into Clement’s squad as the Belgian doesn’t seem convinced by his qualities, but is confident of the effort he will put in until there is an exit.

He had previously called for talks to be held between the attacking midfielder and the club to find a solution before the close of the transfer window, and can’t see why it took so long to do just that.

Philippe Clement reversed course after Rangers first-team exile

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “It’s bizarre, because you waste that two months, and then you’ve got a player who’s a good player, you’re putting doubts in his mind.

“The way he was treated was poor because he wasnae allowed to train with the first team, so he was ousted out to play with the B Team. I just thought he was treated very poorly is my opinion.

“Then all of a sudden, because of the injury situation, because we’re lacking in numbers, they strike a deal.

“But again, the decision making from whoever, whether it’s the manager, whether it’s the recruitment, it’s go to be better.

“Because that’s another story, another situation, that shouldnae have happened.

“And the one thing about Hagi if you speak to the Rangers support, I think they kind of get him and when he did come in a few games ago, when he got sent off, they accepted him big time.

“The fans are not daft, they know the boy’ll give everything.”

In other Rangers news, Clement’s situation could get ugly after a surprise claim emerged from a senior club official.
