Ibrox View: Clement will surely be concerned by 0% Rangers player's int'l no-show

Nedim Bajrami was a passenger in Albania’s 0-0 draw with Czechia in a performance which will worry Philippe Clement at Rangers.

Lining up opposite fellow Gers attacker Vaclav Cerny in Tirana, Bajrami played 72 minutes of the 90 as a fairly uneventful UEFA Nations League tie came and went with just four shots on target throughout.

The 25-year-old, playing on the left wing as he often has at Ibrox so far this season, was unable to have much influence on a game sparse of chances, providing nothing like the impact he’s made in the Light Blue.

Rangers and Albania need Nedim Bajrami to become their talisman

If there was ever a game to show Clement that Bajrami’s effectiveness is limited when playing on the wing rather than as a number 10, this was it, with the ex-Sassuolo man largely being on the periphery.

Though Bajrami did complete 89 per cent of his passes [SofaScore], creating two chances in the process, only four came in the final third and the 25-year-old had a solitary touch in Czechia’s box.

A further two shots were fired off by Bajrami, with neither on target and both coming from outside the box, totalling a meagre 0.08 xG and those passes producing just 0.03 expected assists [FotMob].

Bajrami’s efforts to create further for his team-mates all went astray, with none of four attempted crosses (zero per cent – FotMob) finding their targets – a worrying sign for Cyriel Dessers in particular at Ibrox.

Furthermore, with Clement keen to get more out of his midfield at both ends of the pitch, Bajrami’s defensive numbers make for grim reading: two ball recoveries and failing with his only attempted tackle.

Duels and dribbles were the only areas in which Bajrami did impress, winning four ground duels from five and all three of his attempted dribbles, but the remainder of his 72-minute display left a lot to be desired.

Albania have a chance to redeem their stalemate by beating Ukraine on 19 November, but there’ll be plenty of Ibrox eyes focused on their big-money Deadline Day signing making a marked improvement.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson flagged up John Gilligan’s recent comments about the state of the Ibrox board as ‘clumsy‘.
