Paul Robinson has been stunned by Brennan Johnson proving the “keyboard warriors” wrong after receiving criticism at Tottenham recently.
The Welshman was forced into deleting his social media accounts due to some of the comments, having scored no goals in his first four league games, but now has six goals in his last six games.
Johnson has now emerged as one of Ange Postecoglou’s brightest stars at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, battling back against online abuse and even matching Harry Kane’s record at the club.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “I’m not active on social media very much as it’s not a world I want to dip into, exactly for this reason. I don’t want to expose myself to those kinds of people.
“The paying fans that go to the stadium have a right to voice their opinions, not the keyboard warriors who don’t sit and watch them every week. When it becomes personal, and it’s not constructive, it’s a dangerous world.
“It’s not policed how it should be. He has shown a very strong character and let’s talk about his football. He’s been outstanding, with six goals in six games. He’s absolutely flying and is Tottenham’s best player right now.
“He’s been given a new lease of life down that right-hand side and he looks productive every time he gets the ball. You have to give a lot of credit for his strength of character as he’s matured very quickly.”
Brennan Johnson proves haters wrong with Tottenham displays
With six goals in his last six games, the 23-year-old winger has helped his side claim five wins from their last six matches, dampened by an unexpected hiccup in a 3-2 defeat to Brighton.
Johnson certainly has the potential to be a big Premier League star, even just a few months after leaving Nottingham Forest, and his recent performance will only be a positive boost for him.
Those who made him feel the need to delete his social media accounts are everything that is wrong with the sport and should never consider themselves a “supporter”. It all went too far on social media.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs could be tempted by a £50million+ offer to sell one of their star players.
