Keith Jackson believes Philippe Clement has lost the faith of players and supporters despite Rangers’ 1-0 Scottish Premiership win against Hearts on Sunday.
The Belgian has been under a magnifying glass due to the indifferent performances that his Gers squad have been putting in this season.
Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (11 November), Jackson has not seen anything to convince him much has changed even though they defeated the Jambos.
“What you see with your own eyes is a manager who has lost the faith of the fans, he looks to me very much as if he’s lost the faith of the players,” he said.
“Rangers under Clement are a broken outfit, he’s sort of putting the band-aids on them from game to game, it needs recalibration, it needs a new set of eyes, somebody that the fans can get behind”.
Rangers need to get rid of Philippe Clement before it’s too late
The fact that things behind the scenes aren’t fully sorted at Ibrox yet has no doubt played a part in the length of Clement’s tenure.
John Gilligan is the interim chairman of the club until a permanent solution can be found, it’s unclear whether he has the ability or authority to relieve the Belgian of his duties, because if he did, it feels like moves would have already been made.
The Gers are nine points adrift of their fellow title rivals and are third in the Scottish Premiership, which, for a team of Rangers’ calibre is far from where they need to be.
Unless their form picks up against the stronger teams in the league and in high-pressure situations, it’s hard to see how Clement will be able to stay in his role.
Beating teams lower in the league is all well and good but if they can’t beat the likes of Aberdeen and Celtic, they won’t stand a chance when it comes to the title race.
