Mark Wilson blasted his former Rangers rival Vladimir Weiss after the Slovak was booed at Celtic Park as captain of Slovan Bratislava.

The former Hoops defender went in on the Slovan captain on Open Goal (19 September) after Brendan Rodgers’ side won 5-1 in their Champions League opener the night before.

Weiss, who spent the 2010-11 season on loan at Ibrox, was jeered from the stands at Parkhead throughout the game and said he was fine with it after the game, but admitted making “silly comments” during his time with the Light Blues [Football Scotland, 18 September].

Si Ferry said: “He got booed every time he got the ball didn’t he? Yeah.”

Wilson replied: “He was a [expletive] Weiss, aye. Remember it was that period where I think [El Hadji] Diouf was all there so it was a squad that had some individuals that were just… he was a [expletive], so he was.

“I was buzzing [about the booing]. I couldnae believe he was captain of them last night, but I was buzzing.”

Slovan Bratislava ace slammed over Rangers history

Weiss, 34, probably knew what to expect on returning to Parkhead as the captain off the opposition after a brief Rangers stint left an impact.

It didn’t help that his side was then thrashed, which unfortunately doesn’t differentiate him too much from the current Light Blues side.

Philippe Clement’s squad are arguably lacking some of the nastiness associated with Walter Smith’s title winners that Weiss was a part of, having fallen well off the pace while repeatedly coming up short in Old Firm derbies.

Instead, the Light Blues are in disarray with a temporary chairman trying to find successor and a new CEO at the same time after John Bennett was obliged to resign on health grounds.

Celtic beat Slovan Bratislava with ex-Ranger ace Vladimir Weiss as captain.

And an all-too-meek set of players have shown a propensity to wilt in the face of pressure in recent seasons, most significantly when travelling across the city.

Clement attempted to overhaul the squad in the summer to address some of those issues, but the likes of Robin Propper have already shown signs of being more of the same [Kris Boyd on Sky Sports, 15 September].

The Gers are currently five points behind Rodgers’ men after just five games, with injuries again a major problem.

But an uplifting cameo from Hamza Igamane in the much-needed 1-0 win at Dundee United last week has at least provided some cause for optimism [PLZ Soccer, 16 September].

In other Rangers news, a Light Blues shareholder has raged over an “astonishing” failure allowed to happen at the club.
