'Can't believe how good': Jamie Carragher admits one Arsenal player stunned him and Thierry Henry

Arsenal failed to come away with all three points in their opening Champions League match, as Atalanta held them in Italy.

Mikel Arteta won’t be too displeased with the result, but his side definitely weren’t at the races, with Martin Odegaard’s absence felt in the final third.

Atalanta actually had more shots and more possession than Arsenal over the 90 minutes.

The only thing that separated the two sides was the incredible double save from David Raya after the Serie A side was awarded a penalty in the second-half.

This isn’t the first time Raya has made a decisive save this season, as he made a stunning save on the opening day against Wolves from a Jorgen Strand Larsen header.

Interestingly, there was one Arsenal player who stunned Jamie Carragher and the CBS Sports studio last night…

Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry stunned at what one Arsenal player did against Atalanta

Riccardo Calafiori returned for Arsenal after picking up an injury on international duty.

However, the Gunners still have five players currently out injured, as Oleksandr Zinchenko, Mikel Merino, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Martin Odegaard and Kieran Tierney all missed training.

There was one man in particular was head and shoulders above the rest.

During their UCL Today live broadcast for CBS on Paramount Plus, Jamie Carragher revealed that David Raya stunned him and his fellow pundits with his double save.

When speaking to Raya himself, Carragher stated.

“David, we (Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and Kate Abdo) can’t believe how good that save is; that’s one of the best saves I’ve seen for years.”

David Raya’s performance in numbers vs Atalanta

David Raya’s stats actually weren’t as good as you may think, with his double save pretty much being the only thing he did all game.

He made two saves in total, had 46 touches of the ball, two high claims, and a passing accuracy of 60% due to him misplacing 16 of his passes.

But, no one will care about the stats as he single-handedly secured a respectable points for his side against an Atalanta side that made it all the way to the Europa League final last season.

His attention will now turn to Manchester City at the weekend, with another huge performance required from the Spaniard if he is to keep out Erling Haaland.
