Tottenham are set to end the transfer speculation regarding Son Heung-min and trigger the clause that extends his contract until 2026, Florian Plettenberg reports.
The Sky Sport Germany reporter posted via X [22 November] that Spurs are “100 per cent confident” captain Son will play his football in North London in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.
The 32-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer, prompting European clubs to circle for his signature, with Galatasaray touted to launch a surprise move for the forward [Fanatik].
However, Tottenham fans can rest easy knowing that Son will continue leading the line for Ange Postecoglou beyond the current season.
Son Heung-min will continue his career at Tottenham
Tottenham have now risked further upsetting Son’s entourage after they voiced their displeasure at the prospect of the North London outfit triggering the extension clause over signing the captain on fresh terms [TBR Football].
However, Daniel Levy has taken a non-problematic approach to benefit the club; at 32, Son is well within the twilight years of his career and negotiations for a new deal could have sparked conflict between both parties.
Therefore, Son can continue to lead the side without Spurs forking out more money in the wage budget, but this could be easily interpreted as a lack of recognition of his accomplishments at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The South Korean international has continued his “world-class” standards for club and country this term, notching three goals and three assists in the Premier League thus far, despite dealing with injury woes at Spurs.
He will be the cornerstone of Postecoglou’s project until the end of next season at the very least, and even if Son’s camp persists in pushing for a move away from North London, Tottenham are now in a position to demand the big-money fee a player of his quality is rightfully worth.
Tottenham supporters will celebrate this result as a win, but matters must return to the football pitch, with a monumental clash against Manchester City next.
In other Tottenham news, Fulham have been backed to accept Spurs’ £30m bid to sign Joachim Anderson.
