Tottenham expert speculates Maddison to be baffled by his situation at Tottenham

John Wenham expects Ange Postecoglou to leave Tottenham star James Maddison out once again against Manchester City on Saturday.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the midfielder will be wondering what he needs to do to earn himself a start.

Yves Bissouma is expected to come in for Rodrigo Bentancur after the 27-year-old was handed a seven-match suspension by the Football Association, a punishment which could yet be changed.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – still doesn’t think there is room for Maddison at the Etihad Stadium [23 November].

“I expect Bissouma to come in for Bentancur,” Wenham said.

“Then I imagine that Dejan Kulusevski and Pape Matar Sarr will make up the rest of the midfield three.

“Maddison will be thinking ‘What do I have to do to get a game?’ However, I’m just looking at it and I think that midfield gives you the best balance. Kulusevski has been performing at a higher level than Maddison and you need Sarr’s energy and legs in midfield in a game such as this.”

James Maddison to be left out once again for Tottenham against Manchester City?

Maddison has been dropped to the bench for Spurs’ last couple of Premier League matches, with the 27-year-old mooted to be unhappy in North London.

Should he once again be left out, even after another midfielder at the club has been ruled out, the Englishman might be left really questioning his place under Postecoglou.

The Australian deciding to leave Maddison out on Saturday would prove just how far down in the pecking order the Englishman is.

Therefore, it is also a decision which could prove to cause a bit of unrest behind the scenes.
