Chris Jack has criticised Cyriel Dessers after making comments about being able to play at a higher level than Rangers.
The 29-year-old made a valid point that he would likely be playing away from Ibrox if he could score more goals and become more clinical, but it was how he said it that angered the majority of fans.
Since arriving from Cremonense on a £5.6million deal in the summer of 2023 [BBC Sport], Dessers has netted 32 times in 74 appearances but continues to come under heavy criticism for his all-round play.
Speaking via The Rangers Review YouTube channel [11 November], Jack said: “In theory, what he said last week in the mixed zone, I can see where he’s coming from. I think he’s right.
“But like in terms of what the manager said about the fans, there’s a way of getting your point across and that was slightly a clumsy way of saying it.
“In theory, he is right. He can be the cause of Rangers’ problems and the solution to Rangers’ problems. I don’t think the way Rangers play gets the best out of him.”
Cyriel Dessers continues to frustrate at Rangers
Jack has hit the nail on the head with his assessment of the striker. The point he was trying to make is a sensible one, but his use of phrases and tone is always bound to rile up the fans.
The Ibrox faithful are already frustrated with the team’s current form, the manager’s laid-back view of everything going wrong at the club, and even more so now after Dessers’ comments.
With 32 goals in 74 appearances, anyone looking at those statistics alone would suggest that Dessers is quite the clinical attacker for the Gers, but they would be missing all the chances he misses and his lack of ability to link up with teammates.
Of course, for a fee of under £6million, fans should not have been expecting a striker of immense quality, but they surely have expected him to have been replaced by now.
These comments may have been the final straw for those at Ibrox, so it will be interesting to see what happens once the January transfer window rolls around.
In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement has been told to “get to the bottom” of a blatant issue after a new Ibrox development.
