'Gone to hell' - Bill Leckie issues Philippe Clement sack verdict after Rangers v Hearts

Bill Leckie believes that if Kenneth Vargas had scored for Hearts against Rangers on Sunday, the hosts would be out of the title race.

The Scottish Sun journalist wrote on 11 November, after watching Gers beat Hearts 1-0 a day earlier, that Philippe Clement will be sacked if his side’s performances do not improve.

Cyriel Dessers’ early goal gave the hosts the start they needed but they failed to capitalise on the momentum to go on and score more goals.

Leckie wrote: “First man Rangers boss Philippe Clement should have thanked at full-time yesterday Kenneth Vargas.

“If the Hearts frontman had stuck away that one-on-one chance early in the second half, it could all have gone to hell in a handcart for Clement. Seriously.

“He’s now constantly that close to the whole thing falling around his ears, our top flight’s equivalent of Erik Ten Hag in the dying of his Old Trafford light.

“Had the Jambos gone home with a point — and they probably should have — it would have left Clement’s men 11 off the top two and pretty much out of contention.

“As it was, when Vargas hit the post, having bottled it in the first half after John Souttar’s passback put him in on Jack Butland, he allowed the Belgian to fight another day.

“But make no mistake. This was another Rangers performance that can be described as bang-average at best, another one where the most they can say is that they got the job done.

“They have to start being a lot better than that if their gaffer’s to have any kind of future.”

Philippe Clement is far from making Rangers a force to be reckoned with at Ibrox

Clement’s tenure at Ibrox would be under severe scrutiny at any well-run club, given the current circumstances.

Despite securing a narrow 1-0 victory against Hearts, the performance was lacklustre, which is indicative of a broader pattern under his management.

Rangers, who are expected to compete fiercely for the Premiership title, are significantly off the pace, nine points behind the leaders.

The team’s inability to dominate games, particularly at home, where they should be dictating play, raises serious questions about the Belgian’s tactical approach and overall strategy.

His persistence with playing players out of position and the team’s failure to convincingly outperform mid-table or lower-ranked teams suggest a lack of progress in team development.

It’s time for the board to have serious talks about the Belgian and they also must shortlist ideal replacements for him.

In other Rangers news, Keith Jackson has claimed that Philippe Clement no longer trusts this player at Ibrox.
