Celtic fans stunned by 'embarrassing' TV rights development

Celtic fans are backing the club after they opted out of a contract granting subscription channel Premier Sports the rights to 20 Scottish Premier League games.

According to the Daily Mail, their top-of-the-table clash with Aberdeen will no longer be televised after the current Scottish champions pulled out.

Sky have the rights to televise 60 Scottish Premier League games this season, limiting them to five visits per ground, having visited Celtic Park twice already this season.

An agreement to sell a secondary package to Irish broadcaster Premier the right to air up to two additional games from any Scottish Premier League stadium.

Celtic were offered £75,000 for each additional home game, up to a maximum of £150,000 for two, but were reluctant to inconvenience match-going fans by rescheduling more 3pm Saturday kick-offs to later times.

The Glasgow club are already well on their way to securing their fourth consecutive Scottish Premier League title, winning all of their league games and sitting at the summit.

They were able to put their 7-1 Champions League humbling at the hands of Borussia Dortmund behind them and secure a 2-1 away victory over Ross County on Sunday (October 6).

Fans have taken to X, formally known as Twitter, to express their support for the club after pulling out of the TV deal.
