Keith Wyness: Nottingham Forest have made dramatic U-turn after chief 'fell out with Marinakis'

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed Nicholas Randall KC had a falling out with Evangelos Marinakis before recently being reappointed as Nottingham Forest chairman.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed he’s had various battles with Randall over the years.

Football Insider revealed on 3 October Tom Cartledge has stepped down from his role as Forest’s chairman despite only replacing Randall in August last year.

But Randall has now been reappointed as the club’s chairman after previously holding the position for six years following owner Marinakis’s takeover in 2017.

During that time, the barrister helped Forest secure their long-awaited return to the Premier League in 2022 and cement their position in the top flight.

Nottingham Forest hire makes sense after legal development

Wyness admitted it makes sense to have a legal expert leading the club at a time when the footballing world is turning litigious.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I know Mr Randall, I’ve had various battles with him over player issues and different things.

“He is also a barrister, he’s a King’s Counsel. He was chairman previously and then he stepped down.

“I believe there was a falling out with Mr Maranakis.

“I don’t think Mr Randall will be the first one to have had a falling out with him.

“But nevertheless, he seems to be back in.

“It did seem the chairman who he’s just taken over from was there to actually handle the developments around the City Ground in Nottingham.

“It seems strange that he’s gone, but apparently, he’s going to stay on the board and give his expertise on that whole development because he’s a real estate expert in that area.

“It seems that Maranakis feels that Randall’s got to be there to handle what is turning into a legal fest and why not have a King’s Counsel on your board as chairman when the whole world of football is turning litigious.”
