Championship clubs are understood to be monitoring Stanley Mills ahead of a potential January loan move away from Everton, according to Joe Thomas.

The Liverpool Echo journalist reported on Saturday (9 November) that the 21-year-old stepped up his training and returned to the grass having suffered a “horrific” injury during his loan spell with Oxford United last term.

Mills has responded well during his recovery with interest in his signature growing as clubs monitor his ability ahead of a potential loan switch during the January transfer window.

Will Stanley Mills complete Everton exit amid Goodison Park transfer rumours?

Mills was incredibly highly thought of at Goodison Park before an injury during his time at Oxford United halted his progress and left him stuck on the treatment table for an extended period of time.

Although the 21-year-old is yet to make his Premier League debut with the Toffees, he impressed Frank Lampard during his time on Merseyside, with the former Chelsea manager including him in his squad for a pre-season tour of the USA.

Ultimately, Everton will now have to decide what is the best course of action for the young winger heading into the new year.

While they will likely be keen to keep him on Merseyside for as long as possible so that they can manage his recovery, Dyche and the team around him will know that another loan spell will be much more beneficial for his long-term development.

At 21, Mills needs a consistent run of games in the football league to really kick on and prove that he has what it takes to play for the Blues in the Premier League in the future.

Hopefully, an agreement can be reached with an EFL club when January rolls around, whether that be in the Championship or League One. As long as Mills is playing regular first-team football, it won’t matter too much what level he is playing at.
