Everton will head into the international break on the back of two defeats after their clash with West Ham United, according to Alan Shearer.
The Toffees make the trip to the London Stadium on Saturday (9 November) as they look to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s last time out.
Although Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui is under pressure after a poor start to the season, BBC Sport pundit Shearer admits he isn’t convinced that Sean Dyche’s Blues have enough to come away with anything.
Writing for Metro on Friday (8 November) he said: “This is a massive game for Julen Lopetegui. If West Ham lose, the noise around him and the club will be huge.
“Everton had a poor result against Southampton last week and they’re away again here so I’m not convinced they can turn up and win.
“I’ll go for a West Ham win because they simply have to.”
What has happened to Everton manager Sean Dyche at Goodison Park?
It had seemed as though Everton had managed to turn a bit of a corner both off and on the pitch over the last few weeks, but that optimism has vanished following the defeat to Southampton.
The Blues are well and truly still in a relegation battle and while they should have more than enough to move away from the drop zone over the coming months, particularly when the takeover is completed, another loss would put them in a difficult position.
It is far too early for clubs to be viewing games as six pointers, but this match already has that sort of feel to it. A win would not only help the Toffees put a gap between them and the bottom three but also throw West Ham into the dogfight.
Hopefully, Dyche’s side will bounce back and better Shearer’s position to head into the international break on a positive note.
If they don’t, the pressure is only going to continue to mount on the Blues boss and his side. While no sacking is imminent at Goodison Park, it does feel as though fans are starting to lose patience with Dyche and his methods.
