Ashley Cole revealed his “pride” as he quit the England coaching set-up to pave the way for Thomas Tuchel’s arrival.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal full-back had been part of Lee Carsley’s coaching team for his interim spell in charge but appears to be departing the role alongside the 50-year-old.

Cole wished the players and the wider team all the best in an emotional and lengthy post about his time in the role.

Cole said, “It has been an eventful three months, I am proud and grateful for the experience.

“I would like to thank the players for their dedication and commitment to our strategies and objectives.

“Their contributions have been invaluable both on and off the pitch, it was a pleasure watching you guys play with an amazing mindset and belief, your energy has been outstanding.

“I would also like to thank the entire staff for making us feel welcome as new coaches, your support was brilliant.

“Last but not least, a huge thank you to Lee, and the rest of the coaching staff, you are top.”

Joleon Lescott also sent a similar message to England fans earlier today, confirming the end of his time in the coaching setup.

England are set to undergo wholesale change from a coaching perspective

The Three Lions will see a completely different coaching setup when they meet again next year as Tuchel takes charge of the team in January.

The German coach is likely to bring his own staff in to support him in his first-ever international coaching role.

Anthony Barry has already been confirmed as Tuchel’s assistant head coach.

Cole had been given a full-time role as a national coach with the FA back in September after initially helping Carsley on a part-time basis with the England Under-21s team.

He has previously coached at Chelsea, Derby County, and Birmingham City, and is now expected to return to his role working across the England men’s player pathway.
