Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Fosun may be “cleaning up” ahead of a potential Wolves takeover after rebuying £39million of shares.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted
According to The Athletic (6 November), Fosun has bought back a minority stake in Wolves from US investment firm PEAK6.
The Chicago-based company bought the shares three years ago but Fosun have now repurchased the stake for $50million (£38.9million) to end the partnership.
Wyness has previously revealed to Football Insider (24 October) that he expects a US investor to launch a minority investment at Wolves “very soon”.
Chairman Jeff Shi claimed in September that the club have spoken with groups about a minority investment and there has been plenty of interest.
Wolves owners Fosun ‘cleaning up’ ahead of potential takeover, says Wyness
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “This is something they’ve done before.
“PEAK6 are a small company and I think Fosun are cleaning up the books, with a view to actually looking at a divestment in some way.
“I’ve felt that in the last year, while they’re not in a rush, they’re ready to consider selling up in some way.
“That’s what this exercise may be all about – cleaning up and getting rid of smaller investors.
“Wolves have got to hit some form before they can get to the valuations that Fosun are thinking about.
“No-one’s going to be coming in while the relegation situation is there.
“I don’t think PEAK6 selling their stake to Fosun means they are in it for the long term. It may actually mean the opposite.”
