Antony’s career certainly hasn’t gone as planned since he completed his move to Man United.
The winger joined the club in the summer of 2022, following manager Erik ten Hag in making the move to Old Trafford from Ajax, for £81.3million (BBC Sport).
It was a big outlay for a player who has yet to really make an impression for the Red Devils. In 87 appearances in all competitions, he has just 12 goals and five assists (Transfermarkt).
Now, the latest transfer updates appear to suggest that the Brazilian’s time with the club, may already be coming to an end, after interest in the summer failed to lead to a move.
Ruben Amorim wants Geovany Quenda in at Man United
Plenty has changed off the pitch since Antony’s arrival at Old Trafford. INEOS have become the club’s minority shareholders, while Ruben Amorim has now replaced Ten Hag as manager.
According to a report from The Daily Star, that means the club are now ready to sanction the winger’s departure in the January transfer window.
INEOS owner Jim Ratcliffe is said to be keen to get the Brazilian off the wage bill as well, with 24-year-old supposedly a disruptive influence behind the scenes.
It is thought Man United are willing to sell, or even loan out, Antony once the market reopens at the turn of the year.
They are also said to be targeting Geovany Quenda as his replacement, with the new manager thought to have made his young compatriot his top target. All of that suggests the future for Antony with the club does not look promising.
It is now two-and-a-half years in which he has had a chance to show what he can do for Man United.
However, he has largely failed to do so, instead seemingly causing issues both on and off the pitch. With that being more than enough time to make up their minds it seems the club have now done so.
If they are able to get Quenda as well they will have a potentially strong replacement for him in place.
Even at 17-years-old the winger is catching the eye of plenty of clubs with his performances for Sporting in Portugal, showing how capable he is at the top level.
His age means he can be a major long-term asset for Man United, and the fact he has already worked with Amorim means he will no doubt be trusted by him at Old Trafford.
All of that puts him in a strong position to take the place of Antony if he makes this particular move to Manchester in the near future.
That in turn, does mean it is hard to see much of a reason for the Brazilian to be positive, when he considers what the future might hold for him under Amorim.
In other news, Marcus Rashford has seemingly aimed a dig at Erik Ten Haag after his Man United departure.
