Ally McCoist overjoyed by 'outstanding' Liverpool sensation

Ally McCoist has been delighted by Scotland’s young Liverpool winger Ben Doak, comparing his early career trajectory to that of Jude Bellingham on talkSPORT.

McCoist highlighted the teenager’s exceptional pace and ability to beat defenders, likening his freedom and impact on the pitch to how his England counterpart played when he first burst onto the scene.

Doak’s performance under the lights at Hampden Park during Scotland’s 1-0 victory against Croatia (15 November) in the Nations league was arguably his most impressive yet.

The 19-year-old winger delivered a dazzling display against Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol, frequently beating the highly-rated defender. A particularly viral moment saw Doak execute a rapid spin and turn, leaving his opponent scrambling.

“Terrific. Outstanding potential. Do you know what he’s doing? I’m not going to compare him to Jude Belling him, but I’m comparing him to Jude Bellingham in a sense [that] he plays with a freedom, when Bellingham first came on the scene, for a young man, he was fearless, looked as if he was loving everything about it.

“Ben Doak seems to be in that place. Completely different players, the comparison that I’m making is there’s a freshness about them, and he’s given us something completely different in a forward area, and we’ve not had it for a long, long time.”
