Chris Jack makes new Rangers transfer admission as Cantwell Ibrox exit mooted

Chris Jack has admitted there has not been much interest in Rangers players outside of Todd Cantwell and Cyriel Dessers during the summer transfer window.

Philippe Clement is looking to put his stamp on the Gers squad and several players are expected to depart Glasgow with reports suggesting teams are targeting both Cantwell [Scottish Sun, 3 July] and Dessers this summer [Rangers Review, 3 July].

Many other players have also been tipped to leave Glasgow before the new season gets underway, but Rangers Review journalist Jack insists the Light Blues haven’t been inundated with enquiries.

Speaking on The Rangers Review YouTube channel (5 July, 24:30) he said: “I spoke to somebody there about the situation the other day and outside of Dessers and obviously the Todd Cantwell story that came out, there’s not a lot of movement in terms of the phone ringing to say we want X, Y and Z.

“There’s obviously the club and the agents doing their things, sometimes through Instagram, sometimes over the phone, but over the course of the window a number of these guys will have to move on.”

While both Clement and Rangers supporters would likely be eager to see several players sold this summer, it won’t be easy for the Gers to find clubs willing to take some of the exit-linked stars off of their hands.

The Ibrox club offer competitive wages and the opportunity to play European football and there will be players who are not willing to throw that away when they still have a contract on offer in Glasgow for the foreseeable future.

On top of that, several of the stars who have been backed to complete moves away haven’t been in the best form so it was always going to be unlikely that the Gers would pocket big money for their services this summer.

Hopefully, as both the Copa America and the Euros near their conclusions the transfer market will kick into gear and there will be more movement both in and out of Ibrox ahead of the start of the Premiership season.

To put it simply, the Gers cannot head into next season expecting to get their hands on the title ahead of Celtic unless they make a few more changes to their playing squad.
