Philippe Clement is expected to axe Robin Propper from his Rangers starting XI against Hearts, according to Chris Jack.

The Light Blues welcome Neil Critchley’s side to Ibrox on Sunday (10 November) as they look to get back to winning ways in the Premiership having lost their last league game against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Although Propper started and played the full 90 minutes as the Gers drew 1-1 with Olympiacos in the Europa League last time out, Rangers Review journalist Jack expects the Dutchman to be dropped in favour of Leon Balogun.

Writing for the Rangers Review on Saturday (9 November) he said: “Robin Propper was a solid performer against Olympiacos but there is a feeling that European action suits his style better.

“As a result, a change is expected. Leon Balogun seems the first choice to start but Neraysho Kasanwirjo also merits a berth alongside John Souttar and the decision is a close one.”

What has happened to Rangers defender Robin Propper at Ibrox?

It’s safe to say Propper has had an incredibly mixed start to life at Rangers having arrived during the summer transfer window.

At times, the Dutchman has impressed alongside Souttar, but occasionally he has looked all at sea at Ibrox and struggled to deal with the physicality of Premiership football.

Against Kilmarnock, the centre-back was bullied in difficult conditions and while that is unlikely to happen against Critchley’s side on Sunday, Clement may be tempted to start Balogun instead just in case.

Although the Nigerian defender is entering the twilight of his career at Ibrox, he has never really let Clement down. If he starts alongside Souttar, the Gers will have an excellent chance of heading into the international break with all three points.

Hopefully, Rangers will get back to winning ways regardless of who partners Souttar in defence. It would certainly be a relief for supporters and Clement if they didn’t have two weeks to stew on another defeat.

In other Rangers news, Cerny has been told that he looks like a “little boy” when he plays in the Scottish Premiership
