Ianis Hagi will definitely leave Rangers in the summer transfer window, according to Chris Jack.

Writing on the Rangers Review website (18 June), the reliable journalist says there is “no doubt” the Romania international will leave Ibrox this summer with movement expected in the coming weeks.

However, the fee he would command is unclear and although it won’t be “transformative”, every pound is expected to be reinvested into the budget for transfers to rebuild the squad.

Ianis Hagi set for new Rangers transfer

There was a stage in the last few years where Hagi was an indispensable member of the first-team squad at Ibrox.

But after suffering a serious knee injury he lost his place in the squad, and a poor loan at Alaves last season shows that the club have now moved beyond the need for the Romanian in the side.

Philippe Clement has got top options in midfield such as Todd Cantwell and Mohamed Diomande, and Hagi’s lack of versatility and athleticism means he is limited in the new system.

There had been suggestions he could have a role in the 2024/25 campaign [Football Scotland, 25 May], but that is now out of the window.

Rangers Philippe Clement
Philippe Clement will be keen for Rangers to continue spending this summer.

The club will be hopeful that he can have some big performances at Euro 2024 this summer to drive up his price and increase interest, but the opening game saw him come off the bench and have minimal impact.

Ultimately he will leave, however, and the money will be reinvested. Fans will remember the good times, but they will also know it’s the right decision for all parties for him to move on.

In other Rangers news, the club have had a bid accepted for a brand new striker transfer.
