Chris Jack shares if talks over January transfer budget held at Rangers

Philippe Clement is yet to be given any indication of what the January transfer budget will be at Rangers, according to Chris Jack.

Reporting for the Rangers Review (7 December), Jack said that talks between Clement and the Gers board are yet to take place over the January window.

Clement is hoping to strengthen his squad significantly in January following the below-par start to the season, but the Ibrox board are yet to decide whether the Belgian will still be in a job by 2025.

Jack wrote: “Clement will hope he has spent the weeks previously (in January) adding to his squad and gearing up for the second half of the season.

“Talks over budgets have still to take place.”

Despite the 6-0 win over Kilmarnock on Wednesday restoring some much-needed optimism to their domestic campaign, it’s evident that more is needed in January to close the gap on Celtic.

Before the January transfer window ends, Clement’s side will have faced Celtic two more times, firstly in 15 December’s Scottish League Cup Final and once again in the Premiership two days into the new year.

Those two matches – against a side currently 11 points clear of Gers in the league table – will provide a further litmus test as to just what Clement’s team need to add or improve upon on the domestic front.

With Aberdeen also above the Light Blues by four points, the upcoming January window is one which the club simply cannot afford to get wrong as they look to avoid an embarrassing third-placed finish.

All the signs point towards the club keeping faith in Clement for now, but with January closing in fast, the Ibrox board need to make clear to the Belgian just what he’ll be given to work with in the market.
