Chris Sutton instantly mocks Rangers on X after Celtic shoot-out win

Chris Sutton immediately took to social media to mock Rangers after their Scottish League Cup final defeat to Celtic on Sunday.

Celtic lifted the trophy in a dramatic showpiece with a 5-4 penalty shootout victory after the score was tied at 3-3 after extra-time.

The defeat is a tough one for the Gers to take, especially for boss Philippe Clement who is likely to feel the pressure again despite the spirited performance.

Former Celtic striker Sutton, now a prominent pundit, took no time to think before mocking Rangers in a post on his X account on 15 December.

“Well played Celtic and Brendan Rodgers” Sutton said. “Absolutely relentless. Another moral victory maybe for Rangers though…”

Rangers defeat sums up life under Philippe Clement

With an 11-point gap prominent in the league, Rangers’ main source of success looked to be the Scottish League Cup but defeat to Celtic means they realistically are focusing on the Scottish Cup and Europa League now.

The Belgian had actually turned his side’s form around in recent weeks and their draw against Tottenham midweek looked like it could have had a positive effect going into Sunday’s final against Celtic but it was not to be.

Clement will undoubtedly face the brunt of the defeat and concerns over his credibility to turn things around at Ibrox will continue and rightfully so.

A trophyless season for the Gers would be a disaster and he will have to hope his side can do something special in Europe or take out the Scottish Cup instead.

Whether any decision is made on the future of Clement after the defeat is yet to be seen but it surely must be ringing alarm bells among the Rangers hierarchy.
