Chris Sutton reacts to new Rangers signings, sends message to Celtic after Ibrox done deals

Rangers have “got the ball rolling” with their early summer transfer business as Old Firm rivals Celtic risk hanging around, according to Chris Sutton.

Writing in the print edition of The Daily Record (15 June, page 55), Sutton praised the Gers’ early summer business but said that development at Ibrox should not cause a panic at Celtic Park.

Philippe Clement’s side have made three new signings so far in the transfer window, with Sutton acknowledging that unlike Celtic, the light blues are in the process of a rebuild this summer.

Sutton said: “Rangers have already got the ball rolling with new signings but I don’t think Celtic should panic too much about what’s happening across the city.

“Rangers need a total rebuild; There is less work required at Celtic but that doesn’t mean they can hang about.”

Rangers rebuild gathering pace in summer transfer window

Three signings completed prior to the official opening of the transfer window is a positive start for Clement, teeing up a crucial pre-season that will allow the Gers’ new faces to settle in as quickly as possible.

One of these faces is a familiar one, as Colombian wideman Oscar Cortes returns to the club on loan with a permanent transfer slated to be completed next summer [Daily Record].

He joins two defenders in Jefte and Clinton Nsiala as new Ibrox arrivals, and the £680,000 combined paid for the pair suggests that the Gers are planning to be as shrewd as they can financially this window [Daily Record].

Clement giving specific focus to overhauling his side’s defence could see the club spend as much as £6million on a new centre-back, while much-needed attention is also being given to wide areas with the recapture of Cortes [Sky Sports Austria].

The goal is simple for Rangers this summer; build a squad capable of challenging across all fronts, and if the quick-fire business continues, Clement could compound Sutton’s fears of Celtic sitting on their hands.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement will now tell a first-team player to clear out his locker at Ibrox as a development has emerged from Glasgow.
