Everton manager Sean Dyche has what it takes to turn the tide at Goodison Park despite the worrying start to the season, according to Chris Sutton.
The Toffees winless start to the new Premier League season continued as they were beaten 4-0 by Tottenham on Saturday (24 August) having lost 3-0 to Brighton on the opening weekend.
While some pundits and supporters have already started to call for a change in the dugout, Sutton believes Dyche will be the man to help the Toffees leave Goodison Park with a “bang”.
Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live (25 August, 3:35) he said: “Everton fans, two losses, seven goals conceded and none scored.
“How worried are you? Will Sean Dyche sort it out? I think he will but the latest season at Goodison, you want to leave with a bit of a bang don’t you Everton fans?”
Will Everton sack Sean Dyche at Goodison Park after Tottenham loss?
It is safe to say the Toffees fanbase is divided when it comes to Dyche. Undoubtedly, there are bigger issues at Goodison currently than the man in the dugout, but results and performances simply haven’t been good enough.
While the Blues haven’t spent loads of money this summer, they have backed their manager with several new signings and so far, he has been reluctant to throw them into his starting XI.
The likes of Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O’Brien all impressed in pre-season, but neither player has yet been afforded a starting role, with the latter yet to even make his competitive debut having twice been an unused substitute.
While Dyche will be eager to slowly bed his new additions into his side, he cannot waste time that he may not have. With his contract up at the end of the season and no extension talks yet held [Daily Mirror, 17 August], he could be under pressure sooner rather than later.
Hopefully, Sutton will be proven right and the former Burnley boss will manage to find a way to turn it around.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have been told that they “wouldn’t miss” Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid links with a late exit
