Philippe Clement has confirmed that Dujon Sterling was absent from the Rangers squad versus St Johnstone due to injury.
The full-back was a notable absentee for the clash at McDiarmid Park on Sunday (1 December) as the Gers aimed to build momentum from the 4-1 victory at Nice in the Europa League.
Gers boss Clement sought to clarify the situation with an injury update prior to kick-off.
Speaking to BBC Radio Scotland [1 December; 11:55], he said: “Dujon is injured. He has a blocked nerve so I hope we can solve that fast.”
Dujon Sterling a miss for Rangers
As Clement sought to see his side get a much-needed league result against St Johnstone, he would have been disappointed not to have the 25-year-old available for selection.
The right-back impressed in his side’s 4-1 win against Nice in the week as he got the assist for the Gers’ second goal of the night.
Therefore, with mounting pressure on the manager at Ibrox, Clement would have been keen to keep him in the line-up in the hope that he could provide something similar again.
While an injury for the 25-year-old isn’t ideal news, it doesn’t sound like a long-term absence and Rangers will be hoping he will be available again in no time.
With James Tavernier in and out of the side and doubts over his long-term future it remains to be seen if he will be here beyond Janauary, so it will be vital to have Sterling available as soon as possible.
In other Rangers news, a journalist has torn into one defender as he thinks Clement should sell him.
