Club want to sell Rangers target in 'very complicated' deal as bid made - report

Sevilla would prefer to sell Joan Jordan rather than loan him out after rejecting an offer from Rangers, according to El Sevillista.

Writing on their website (13 July), the Spanish news outlet report that the La Liga club turned down a loan bid [Fabrizio Romano, 13 July] from the Light Blues as they were only prepared to pay a portion of the midfielder’s wages, but they are preparing a new bid [Fernando Serrano, 13 July].

Sevilla aren’t counting on Jordan to be part of their squad next season and would prefer to sell him permanently, but because the 30-year-old has a “lifetime contract” that runs until 2027 it is making any deal “very complicated”, with the player keen on staying in Seville.

Rangers face tough task to sign Joan Jordan

It’s evident that Philippe Clement has got big plans for his Rangers squad this summer, with six new arrivals already through the door and more expected.

But midfield is an area that is in dire need of strengthening in particular with Connor Barron joining Nicolas Raskin and Mohammed Diomande as the manager’s only natural options.

Jordan would add fantastic experience and know-how to the squad too having played at the highest level, and a loan deal would suit the club’s current financial deficiencies.

Clement admitted that the club must sell to buy, so a permanent deal for Jordan seems highly unlikely since the player doesn’t seem particularly interested in a move anyway.

But convincing him that a temporary solution could be to come to Ibrox and show his talent would work for everyone, although a bigger and better offer wage-wise would be need to be tabled to get the green light.

In other Rangers news, the club are set for a six-figure windfall after some Fabrizio Romano transfer news.
