Cole Palmer: Fans tear into England star after his display in 3-1 win vs Finland

England fans have torn into Cole Palmer after his underwhelming display in the Nations League victory against Finland.

Lee Carsley’s side bounced back from the disappointment against Greece with a 3-1 win away from home with goals from Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Declan Rice before Arttu Hoskonen pulled one back for the hosts.

However, it was Palmer’s display which caught the attention of the travelling supporters as he failed to make much of an impact on the game going forward.

Playing in a different role to his usual position at Chelsea, the 22-year-old was deployed as a right-winger with most of his work done down the touchline.

As a result, he was unable to influence the game in the way we have seen at Stamford Bridge, and fans have been hugely critical of his lack of impact.

The usual confidence Palmer brings to his game was seemingly lacking – and amid comparisons with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, supporters still want to see more from the Chelsea man.

Palmer was withdrawn and replaced by his club teammate Noni Madueke after 68 minutes and it was the latter who seemed to make more of an impact with his direct running as a natural winger.

While Palmer didn’t put a foot wrong with his performance, it was his lack of goal threat and decisiveness in the final third which left fans feeling flat.

Following the game, many supporters took to social media to vent their frustrations, with the forward labelled “shocking” and “horrendous”.
