Wilfred Ndidi should have been sent off for Leicester City after his challenge on Cole Palmer in the Foxes’ 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday, Keith Hackett has said.
The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee exclusively told Football Insider that VAR made an error by not intervening in the incident.
With 22 minutes on the clock at The King Power Stadium Ndidi was booked by referee Andy Madley for his challenge on the Blues star but Hackett is certain it was “clear and obvious” mistake.
The Foxes midfielder caught the England international from behind and ran the studs down the back of his leg, to the outrage of a series of pundits.
But despite the apparent dangerous nature of the challenge, Madley was not instructed by VAR to review the incident with a view to increasing the punishment to a red card.
Ndidi therefore remained on the pitch against Chelsea, eventually being substituted after 71 minutes.

Although VAR did not got involved in the incident, Hackett believes the challenge from the midfielder was worthy of dismissal from the match.
He therefore feels that the officials made the wrong decision, and that the video assistant also made a mistake in not advising Madley to review his decision.
Speaking about the incident, Hackett told Football Insider: “I thought that the challenge by the Leicester City player Ndidi raking his boot down the Achilles of his opponent should have been red carded
“Poor judgment, poor officiating. It was a clear and obvious error and VAR should have intervened.”
Despite not being given a man advantage, and another shocking event later involving Palmer, Chelsea were still able to secure a 2-1 win that ensures they are currently third in the Premier League table.
Leicester meanwhile are 16th, just two points clear of the relegation zone as things stand.
In other news, some Chelsea fans have called for Enzo Maresca to make a big decision over Noni Madueke.
