Cole Palmer sends special message to Chelsea’s 17-year-old Brazilian wonderkid
The pair traded private messages on social media.
Cole Palmer sent a special message to Chelsea’s 17-year-old Brazilian wonderkid Estêvão Willian Almeida de Oliveira Gonçalve on Instagram.
Chelsea completed a deal for the Palmeiras teenager who is simply known as Estêvão Willian, or even just Estêvão, in June 2024.
Estêvão will officially join Chelsea on July 1, 2025 once his 18th birthday has passed but the youngster is already dreaming of playing alongside Palmer.
The winger has revealed that Palmer sent him a message on social media the day after he signed for Chelsea, with the Englishman labelling him as a ‘star’ already.
Palmer also told Estêvão that the duo are going to achieve ‘great things together for Chelsea’ once he turns up at Stamford Bridge next year.
Speaking to The Guardian, Estêvão said: ‘When I signed for Chelsea, the next day I scored a goal and celebrated like Palmer.
‘His celebration was trendy, very popular. We talked on social media, I tagged him on Instagram.
‘He called me a star, I said he’s a star too. He said we’re going to do a lot of great things together for Chelsea.’
Chelsea have reportedly paid a €34m (£28.5m) fee to land Estêvão and could end up splashing out another €23m (£19.3m) in performances-based incentives.
Estêvão earned his first caps for the Brazil first-team this year and has revealed how he made Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson ‘angry’ on international duty.
‘In shooting training, I started to hit all the shots and Alisson got a bit angry,’ Estêvão added.
‘He said he was still warming up, that I should wait a little bit. But I took it a bit seriously and scored many goals [against] him.
‘He took it all in jest, but I hope that next year I can do again against him in [Premier League] matches. We’ll see a lot of each other in England.’
