Arsenal have a fair bit of work to do during the international break to ensure they can return to form during the busy festive period.
The Gunners haven’t won in the Premier League since 5 October and their last victory in all competitions was the Carabao Cup win over Preston on 30 October.
Arsenal have had to deal with multiple injuries to key players since the start of the season, with the likes of Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori having been out.
However, the Gunners have reportedly been handed an injury boost with two players, including one who has been deemed a “superstar”, set to return after the break.
Riccardo Calafiori set for Arsenal return after international break
The player in question is Calafiori, who has been out since October with a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury to his knee.
The Italy international’s injury, sustained in an awkward fall in the Champions League meeting with Shakhtar Donetsk, initially sparked concerns of a severe ligament issue.
However, Calafiori’s issue was less severe than first feared, and the player was expected to be out for ‘several weeks’ with small damage to his medial collateral ligament in his knee.
Now, according to the Daily Mail (print edition, 14/11/2024), the Italy international is set to return after the international break, along with Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Which Arsenal players are on the sidelines?
As per the Premier League website, Arsenal are currently without Calafiori, Tomiyasu, Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney.
The impending return of Calafiori and Tomiyasu is good news for Mikel Arteta as the Gunners have been struggling for form amid multiple injuries.
Ben White has also been ruled out for some time after undergoing surgery earlier this month.
Gabriel Martinelli previously deemed Calafiori a “superstar” and no doubt most Arsenal fans feel that way about him thanks to his quality and versatility. It’ll be good to have him back in action.
