Manchester City are unlikely to be expelled from all competitions if they are found guilty in their 115 charges case.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider any potential punishment is more likely to be focused solely on their Premier League status.
Man City were dealt the charges by the Premier League in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the financial fair play (FFP) rules over a nine-year period.
The hearing started on 16 September and is scheduled to last 10 weeks.
The Telegraph reported on 19 September the English champions are at risk of being expelled from the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, while it is also possible they could be thrown out of the Champions League and Club World Cup.
Man City will need to be expelled by competition organisers
But Borson revealed the other competition organisers would need to expel Man City as it’s not within the independent commission’s remit for the 115 charges case.
“I don’t think it’s likely,” Borson told Football Insider.
“I suspect what that’s talking about is the consequential expulsions that could come following an independent commission decision.
“It’s not within the remit of the independent commission to expel them from those competitions.
“It would need to be the organisers of those competitions.
“I think anything is possible in that wide way you have to look at this because it’s all uncharted territory, but I think that is unlikely.
“It’s much more likely to be quite a simple Premier League penalty and then placed in one of the lower divisions.
“But I just think it’s too difficult to say on the specifics of it.”
