'Complete & Utter Nonsense' - The Esk rages at Everton takeover claim as £1.74bn Textor move expected

John Textor’s reported intention to buy Everton personally rather than through his Eagle Football company have been slammed as impossible by The Esk.

The Toffees blogger responded furiously via X on 26 August after a Sky News report the same day claimed “sources said” the American was looking to complete a takeover from Farhad Moshiri in a personal capacity but could bring it under the Eagle Football banner later.

The update came amid news that Textor is looking to float Eagle Football on the New York stock exchange at a valuation of $2.3billion [£1.74b].

He is set to “seek around $500m [£379m] of new funding from investors” for the company, through which he owns 45% of Crystal Palace.

The Sky report said: “Sources said that he intended to buy Everton personally rather than through Eagle Football, although they added that it was conceivable that the English club could be absorbed into the broader holding company in future.”

In response the Esk wrote: “What complete and utter nonsense – that is not in any way possible”.

John Textor must sell Crystal Palace holding to buy Everton

Textor’s candidacy as new Toffees owner might not spark the same alarm as 777 Partners did, but also hasn’t been met with the positive assessments of Dan Friedkin’s bid.

But since both the latter two takeover attempts failed, one forced and one voluntarily, Everton need someone to step in and finally take the club of Farhad Moshiri’s hands.

According to The Athletic on 15 August he has chosen Textor this time for exclusivity, although there has yet to be an announcement from the club to that effect.

The American has now twice come forward early in the race to be named the the preferred bidder so clearly has designs on the club, but even before he attempts to negotiate the situation on Merseyside he has to sell his Palace shares.

John Textor reported plans to buy Everton in a personal capacity.

And after the statement released on his website on 22 August revealed an attempt had been made to buy the 55% of Palace he doesn’t already have there is bound to be some confusion about what will come next.

In other Everton news, the chances of an “imminent” Sean Dyche sacking have emerged.
