'Completely Unacceptable' - Journalist hits out after incident in Rangers Women's match

Kathryn Batte has slammed a “completely unacceptable” development surrounding the Rangers Women versus Patrick Thistle Women contest.

The Gers won the ScottishPower Premier League match 4-0 at Broadwood Stadium on Sunday afternoon (18 August).

However, a clash of heads between Laura Rafferty and Partick’s Courtney Stewart led to the biggest talking point after the game.

Visiting boss Brian Graham said in an interview with BBC Sport that Stewart was still waiting for an ambulance hours after the collision, despite suffering a seizure.

In response to that, Daily Mail journalist Batte replied via her personal X account [18 August]: “This is completely unacceptable!”

Rangers Women win overshadowed

Firstly, full credit to Jo Potter’s charges for building on last week’s 11-0 win over Aberdeen on the opening day with this latest emphatic victory.

It has been quite the start to the season and hopefully the Gers have started the way they mean to go on over the coming months.

As for the clash of heads between Rafferty and Stewart, it was one of those unfortunate things that happens in a football match.

However, there is absolutely no reason why Stewart had to wait a number of hours to be seen to.

Had it been in a men’s match, the player in question would have been seen to in seconds and stretchered away to hospital in minutes.

Seeing a colleague or an opponent suffer a seizure is clearly not a nice thing, and it makes it worse when said person is not given the adequate treatment. Let’s just hope lessons are learned from this episode.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement may have to convince a player to join the Gers on loan with a bid already lodged.
